Volunteering

The Volunteer Recruitment Service

Volunteers are the lifeblood of Voluntary services. The Volunteer Recruitment Service works rather like a recruitment agency. Groups can register to find volunteers and individuals may volunteer by registering to be placed with groups.

All voluntary roles in the area can be found at www.do-it.org.uk.

Volunteering Opportunities

SSAFA Caseworker

SSAFA (Soldiers, Sailors, Airman & families Association) are looking for caring people to act as caseworkers for serving and ex service personnel. The role involves visiting the person at home or perhaps in hospital, assisting with form filling, liaising with Social Services or helping to access funds to enable them to have a better quality of life.

If you have a lot of common sense, a mature outlook, and good communication skills, this could be a role to consider. Computer literacy and access to a PC would be useful.

Initially, there is a three day training course, after which the volunteer will work under supervision and with support. The role is flexible, so could be undertaken by someone in full time employment.
